Description
The SP5 is a civilian pistol version of the MP5 manufactured by HK. This is a factory HK and therefore includes all original, authentic, HK parts.
The difference between an MP5 machine gun and an SP5 semi-auto are as follows:
- The model name – We weld them and change them to MP5.
- Magwell marking – We change these to the military/police MP5 designations.
- Full auto carrier blocking feature in the back of the receiver – We remove these as part of the conversion.
- Semi-auto carrier – Generally these guns include the factory SP5 semi-auto carrier but, as an option a machine gun/MP5 carrier can be added. (This does not make the gun full auto it only makes it sear ready, for use with registered sears.)
- Semi-auto receiver shelf – Almost all MP5 clones are built with this feature and it is the defining feature that makes the semi-auto legal. (ATF requirement)
- Lower grip frame housing front pin – Machined to fit the shelf (again required of all semi-auto MP5s. We do a false pin in this location)
- Full auto machine gun trigger pack – These semi-auto versions will include the two position semi-auto only trigger pack.
- Lower grip frame full auto position markings – The SP5 grip frame is 2 position marked. This can be swapped out with full auto marked housings when available (for the full auto look).
Why an SP5 conversion over an MP5 parts kit build? Our SP5 conversions are almost exactly the same as the scratch builds we do with the original MP5 parts except the parts are new. Also this means the gun is built with a factory HK receiver. The SP-5 also has a threaded barrel tip and most MP5 parts kits do not.
Generally speaking the SP5 or an SP5 to MP5 conversion would be more desirable than a parts kit build, because it’s all original HK. We undo the “less desirable features” and change the model name along with other options and accessories, to give you the perfect combination!
